Independent Living

This project is intended for older boys for whom we have not been able to arrange family reunification or a foster placement. When they are ready to move on from the foundation they have been living at (at around the age of 18 years) RICF arranges an individually tailored package of support to help the young person make the transition to independence. The package depends on the young person's preference, whether he wishes to continue formal education or seek paid employment, and whether he has any links with biological family members or friends, which may alter the location of his accommodation.
RICF will offer mentoring, financial and educational support, with regular contact with RICF's social workers. The young person will learn to manage his own budget, and how to cook, clean and carry out other domestic chores. He will also remain part of RICF's wider family. Generally the package of support will be offered for a year, or longer if the young person plans to continue their formal education.
